@tyme so I’ve finished registering on the guided referral service form you’ve given me on the attached link.
but I’m wondering if the mental health professionals there are all psychologists though? 🤔

hey @Blackcloud that's exciting that you've signed up for the guided service! in terms of the qualification of the people who you have 1-on-1 sessions with, you get a choice between a peer support worker or counsellor. 😊

hi again guys, so I was able to have a session with the psychologist just now and it went well. Her and I are both Asian so it felt great talking to someone that’s of the same ethnic culture as you as they’re more understanding of what Asian parents are like and all..because every Asian immigrant parents are conservative as hell and it’s fricken hard dealing with having parents like that 😒😒😒 unfortunately I wish I can change the way my parents think (well my mum, especially the fact that she wants me to have a boyfriend and not be single for a long period like ARGHHHHH it makes me pissed everytime I think about it). 🤬🤬🤬
And shes lovely too so that’s great<3

that's amazing! @Blackcloud really glad your session went well, and having someone who gets you form a cultural pov as well must make it so much better!
i hear you, i'm from a south asian background so my parents also have quite strict views about how my life should be too. i can feel your frustration with the whole 'get a bf' pressure, those clashing views can be tough. i'm super glad you're liking your psych, talking to my psych helped me a lot in navigating my mixed feelings and dealing with family conflict, so i have no doubt that you're psych will be able to support you through this too.
how are you feeling post-psych sesh? sometimes it can be triggering or exhausting talking about heavy topics so having a lil break after to re-energise can be really helpful. did you do anything after to relax?

@rav3n for me it was the fact that my mum (and obviously my dad too) wants me to be with someone (especially someone whose of the same ethnicity as us) and get married…so when she had my aunty wanting to introduce me to some guy in our ethnic country back in august, that was when I literally had the worst time ever during that day after she told me the news…
in terms of how I’m feeling after post psych sesh, it felt better being able to talk to them about it & her giving me advice and some strategies in return were great too! She did ask me nearly towards the end of our session about how I’m feeling but I told her I feel the same way as before especially about that situation with my mum forcing me or pressuring me into these cultural norms.
i was able to go to the gym just an hour ago and now I feel refreshed after a workout !!

oh gosh.. not the set up 😬 @Blackcloud my family have the same expectation for me about settling down with a guy from the same ethnic background & religion, and it REALLY pisses me off too. but then i remember that they grew up with all these expectations about the 'girl getting married before 25' and judgement from community if cultural expectations weren't followed. it's hard for them, and it's hard for us.
having your aunty involved in that set up and not having that discussed with you prior must feel unfair, you deserve to have a say in your own relationships and future.
that's great that you're honest with your psych, and post-therapy gym sesh sounds perfect!!

Hey @Blackcloud ,
Great to hear about your connection with your psych! That's amazing!
Fingers crossed it all goes well with you. As you said, at least there will be a deeper understanding of what you experience from conservative parents 🙂
You're not alone!
