Hi @rav3n
Friday's been busy and tiring. Finally time to sit down on the couch and have a coffee.
Would go to bed but have to stay up to pick S up from work, hence the coffee!!
Going to visit hubby's grandmother tomorrow. She is in her 90's and still going well.
I'm hoping other than that I can have a quiet weekend.
How is your day going?
yesterday
hiyaa @Bow have a question for you, how does fostering cats work? is there a timeline that you're given about how long you'll be looking after them for?
hey!! @Shaz51 how are you?
@Snowie ooo sounds busy indeed!! is this your first coffee of the day? hope you have a lovely time visiting H's grandmother tomorrow! do you see her often? also hope everything went well with your mum's surgery!
yesterday
Surgery went ok @rav3n Had a follow up appointment today which was fine.
Lost her sh*t on the way home, with me in the firing line.
Got home, prn and coffee.
Thats my third coffee for the day. About normal for me. I'll have it anyway I can get it. Hot, cold doesn't matter!!
We see his grandmother about 3 times a year. She is in a nursing home about 2 hours away. Am meeting up with hubby's Dad too.

@rav3n All the foster cats are different. I’m not sure of the back story behind these little ones, assuming that they were abandoned. So I will foster them until they are old enough to be desexed and then available for adoption. They will get adopted quickly cause they are kittens.
Sometimes there are older cats that have been in the shelter waiting for their forever homes for a long time and they ask for foster families to give them a break from shelter life for a while.
Then there are some really old or sick cats that they ask for forever foster homes. So they will go to a foster home but will remain under the care of the shelter permanently.
My cat Mr Groot was a foster cat. He had a feline fungal infection that took many months to clear with daily medication. So they wanted a foster home for him until his illness had cleared and was able to be adopted. It cleared, he went up for adoption, we had one enquiry which fell through but the thought of him going I didn’t like so I adopted him!
The shelter covers all medication and vet treatment. They have provided me with all the food for these kittens cause they are on special food and powdered milk still. But if needed with other cats, they can provide food and litter too. They provide heaps of support too

@Snowie glad surgery and appointment went okay! ughh so sorry you had to deal with that again, i can hear how exhausting it must've been. and you pulled yourself through it, definitely a win in my books.
i love hot or cold coffee too! i like drinking hot ones in colder days though, and iced ones on hot days.
oh woah, 4hr journey up and back! must be nice to catch up with them, are your kids coming along to visit? they close with them?
yesterday
@Bow thanks for explaining this!! i think it's really lovely that you've made time to take care of those kittens/cats in the past. i was actually talking to tyme about how i would love to look after a pet for short periods of time, but wasn't sure of long-term due to travel, costs, etc. and she suggested fostering animals. i didn't realise that the shelter takes care of the medical costs too... this gives me a lot to think about!! when you travelled, did you leave Mr Groot with your mum or a paid carer, etc?
yesterday
Yeah all organizations will be slightly different but I foster through the animal welfare league @rav3n and that’s how they do it. They have vets and everything on sight so it’s easy for them to do all the vet work. They also provide you with the details for emergency vet clinics for after hours stuff that they have arrangements with so it doesn’t cost you anything.
You could totally foster. And when you can no longer keep doing it, or if you need to go away, they can take them back. It’s actually handy cause if you go away on holidays you can sent them back to the clinic or another foster cater will care for them while your away.
You could also do pet sitting. Care for someone else’s pet while they are away.
when we went over seas recently we had a house sitter/pet sitter come and stay here. They cared for our dog and cat and looked after the house.

It's sad but I am used to mum now @rav3n and expect it. Wouldn't be a ride home without her telling me off or telling me what I'm doing wrong. I try to not take it personally. But it does exhaust me.
I like iced coffee when it's hot too. Always start my day with a hot coffee whatever the temp is.
Ask hubby and he will say I drink too much!!
S will be coming with us but D is working this time. They aren't really that close to them. Hubby was estranged from his father for about 10 years from the age of 12. His father did alot wrong back then. Very messy divorce. I don't think he has ever forgiven him, but has mended that relationship so he could know his grandkids.
His Dad is one of 11 kids so the family is huge with lots of cousins. Now most of those cousins have kids now. I've been with hubby for 31 years and haven't meet them all!!
yesterday
@Bow oh makes sense!! that's really great that there's a lot of support from the shelter and clinic if needed as well. pet sitting is a good idea too. with fostering/pet sitting, the main thing i'm contemplating is how my rabbit's going to handle it haha. he's very anti-social and a bit of a coward if i'm honest 😆 no idea if he'll be able to befriend any potential foster pets!
having someone house sit sounds nice, your furbabies are probably more comfy being around a familiar home environment! how long have you fostered for? was Mr Groot your first?
