Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

@JollyRogers @Snaffle-Admin some feedback on layout/usability in this thread.

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

thanks so much for your suggestions. I totally get your point about the d = disorder being stigmatising, there are similar challenges across a range of mental health issues, in fact I think there is an ongoing community of people lobbying for a change to the name Borderline Personality Disorder for similar reasons.

one of the challenges we have at SANE is wanting to create spaces where we can help challenge stigma - but also wanting others like us to be able to find each other - similar to your suggestion that the different labels are liked/disliked by different people, we may actually need to use Autistic and ADHD in the name simply because of how search engines work - people who are newly learning about ADHD are going to search for it as a term and we want to be findable so we can create the communities we need.

What do you think about that? Is it ok to create the space with the name Autistic and ADHD and then within the space unpack and explore different perspectives about labels and more?

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

Hi @RachSANECEO

Thank you for your understanding, empathy, respect.

Yes, ok compromise to have D initially, with clear explanation like you have done, maybe in brackets after the name, so inclusive for everyone, without having to look for reason why D is there, D is not neurodiverse affirming - so could convey not safe place. Over time can consider dropping the D.

The name/group is to support Autistics/ADH not harm, not hurt them everytime they see the word Disorder reminding them society, world negative views are more important than their authentic self. For mental health it needs to be safe, welcoming, neurodiverse affirming, trauma informed, respectful, empathetic.

'Autistics/ADHD (D disorder would like to remove, included currently in name so more people can find).'

Sane needs to role model being the positive, respectful 'change would like to see', otherwise reinforces negative stigma, invalidates people, hurts people, can convey 'talk the talk without walking the walk'.

People are suffering, dying. People are too important, precious to pretend to wait for society to catch up with being respectful, and not discriminate. Authentic, safe places people share about.

The first post could be about Disorder for education, and people can express their opinions. Newer people can be referred, linked to the post if it comes up in their post, comment.

@Jynx @Ru-bee

Thank you

Kind regards and Best wishes

Hello @Jynx , @Apricot , @RachSANECEO , @Ru-bee , @The-red-centaur

His 3 boys have adhd and now I can see ASD

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

Hey @Shaz51 not staying for long but just saying hi also hi to @Apricot
ADHD here 👋🏾 I would be keen as to see this space

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

apparently I'm probably on the old spectrum so I guess I'm allowed to say something

my special interest, at the moment and for reasons that should be clear, is psychological warfare, extra-judicial punishment and corruption, i.e. the modern manifestation of the Stasi police state

but no one wants to talk about that, conspicuously enough

does anyone follow any conspiracy theories?  they're fun rabbit holes to disappear down

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

Hey there @f0x

I'm hearing conspiracy theories may be a distraction.

At the same time, we encourage posts to be recovery-oriented so those reading on can be supported in their recovery.

Thoughts?

Re: Thick with the ‘tism – ASD Social Space

there's no recovery without acknowledgement

and there can be no recovery while the abusive situation is continuing
