Re: Destiny

Hey @Rockdog, Sorry to hear you had a bad night.  I'm sure @tyme will understand and that they would have let you know if they were upset or angry with you.  We all have those moments where we do things we really regret.

Re: Destiny

@Oaktree  Now i'm a curious cat, what is stigma watch?

Re: Destiny

@MJG017

SANE Australia is a national mental health charity working to support four million Australians affected by complex mental illness. SANE StigmaWatch was developed by SANE in partnership with Mindframe to ensure media outlets report safely and accurately on mental health concerns and suicide.

Just to put your mind at ease. I know that Tyme doesn’t take things personally. Its part of the job description

Re: Destiny

Thanks @Oaktree, I didn't know that.  What a great initiative!  And an important one, with some of the stuff I see in the media these days.  Even some of the cancer related stories I read, I shake my head at.

My own newspaper interview for example (yes, I will still use any chance to bring it up! 🤣), the early online version headline was 'Living 3 months at a time', which I said in the interview, but magically, for the print version, it morphed to 'Living week to week'.  It's not that bad a change, but I have seen some coverage I've just shaken my head at.  There's enough stigma out there with mental health without misrepresenting it.

Can you help me with something? What would you say if someone asked what you have learned from your time at Sane

@Oaktree  Wow! Where to start?!  I think the biggest thing would be to trust other people will support me if I open up to them.  And to trust myself and other people telling me I am a good person and I do have worth.  This was a big one for me and probably the biggest change in my own mindset and thinking.

I've also learned a lot about mental health in general by talking to people here about their own MH.  I know far more now about all the other issues people deal with and the effects it has on them, especially some of the more complex issues that I never had any real exposure with before.... just some acronyms I saw or read somewhere.

I've also learned from the replies other people have written about different ways and the sort of things that are helpful to write in replying to someone who has reached out for help.  I feel like reading the replies from the more experienced people here is an online study session in itself.

I could probably add some more smaller things, but i just noticed that it's 12.29 here and my RC group is about to start.

Re: Destiny

@OaktreeJust another thing I thought of.  I have learnt that a lot of my behavious and thought patterns, aren't weird or weaknesses, just a way a lot of people have to deal with issues, mainly from their childhood.  This has been important to me to feel like I wasn't broken, I was just struggling with a lot of the same things a lot of other people struggle with. This has been an eyeopener for me since joining here and a major factor in being able to slowly start to change them.

Same, I have learnt that I am enough, and that I am valuable just the way I am
