Diagnosis

Hi I'm new to the forum. I've recently been diagnosed with Bi Polar type 1. At the age of 15 I was diagnosed with depression. Earlier this year a psychiatrist diagnosed me with paranoid delusional disorder along with type B vulnerabilities. I'm wondering if the previous diagnosed symptoms occured due to the bipolar and being in mixed states when diagnosed. I've been in a mixed episode since April (and still am a tad manic) but recently medicated with an antidepressant and anti psychotic.

Re: Diagnosis

Hi @TwoWays

I just wanted to wish you a very warm welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will find it an incredibly friendly and supportive environment. Thank you for sharing your story, I'm sure there are many people who can relate to what you've been going through.

It sounds like you are feeling really confused about your diagnosis and possibly how it has come about. Is this something you have spoken about with your doctor? Maybe it would be worth speaking with your GP to get a referral to an appropriate mental health professional.

If you are wanting some more support you can also speak with someone at Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Re: Diagnosis

Hi @TwoWays

Welcome to the Forums, I'm glad you found us!

Thanks for sharing your story. I think multiple diagnosis can be very complex and confusing for many of us.

I have a few questions, if you don't mind me asking -

1) Was the diagnosis of bi polar by the same psychiatrist who diagnosed you with paranoid delusional disorder? If not, did they know about your delusional disorder diagnosis and did they say they co-exist?

2) Can you explain a but more what 'type B vulnerabilities' means?

Depression is a symptom of bipolar, so there is a chance that it was the onset of the symptoms of bipolar. I know they hesitate to diagnose teenagers until they are 18 over.

Re: Diagnosis

Hi, welcome to the group. I'm also newly diagnosed and came to these pages to find out more answers and support. Sometimes Google just does not answer everything you need. I'm not really knowledgeable on parinod delusional disorder. But hopefully someone on here could help with your questions. Hope you have a lovely week

Re: Diagnosis

Hi a short update.. my meds have really panned out my moods. My anxiety and depression remain lingering but in every other aspect I feel so much better. Another med was added to the mix, so 4 meds in total now some at higher dosages to assist in my sleep which I struggled with immensely and still do wake frequently but much improvement 🙂 I was all over the place last yeat and even up until last month so I can bravely say I'm on the flip side. No longer feeling the omens creep in so no more crying and despair.. though def want my baseline mood to improve. My iron is low and I think once I have the infusion, I'll be quite content.
