Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Re: Wait what did I come into this thread for again? Oh yeah, ADHD!

Hmm such a tricky one @greenspace  - you said yourself it's in their code of conduct, do you think you will report/make a complaint?

I've sorta found that with psychiatrists, it's more about the medical side of things. They don't always have the same sort of 'bedside manner' as a psychologist and tend to focus only on medication. It is indeed a massive undersight that they don't take the time to get to know us better!!

That being said, there are some pdocs out there who will take the time with you, they're just very hard to find. If you're looking for support with the emotional side of things or the day-to-day management of ADHD then a psychologist, counsellor, social worker, maybe even a life coach - all might be options worth looking into.

Self-advocacy is HARD. We're socialised to believe that these professionals are always the experts and always know what's best for us, but they're as human and fallible as anyone. You're allowed to 'shop around' so to speak!

@greenspace

You have the right to complain.

You have the right to have a say in your treatment. You have the right to a second opinion. Sorry that your psychiatrist is not sounding like the right fit for you.
