I thought to jump on my buy nothing page and ask for garden pots. I have just been to pick up 4 medium and 4 small pots and another lady is giving me some more tomorrow. I also had two empty rectangular ones at home that will fit on the shelves nicely.

Then it was off to Bunnings to buy a bag of mushroom compost to mix with the potting mix I already have. I also bought two packets of seeds, thyme and basil. Pretty sure I already have some parsley seeds. Will plant them all on Wednesday probably because tomorrow I have to bake a cake and busy with the kids on Tuesday.

Happy Days!

Re: My Place

okay sounds good @Oaktree  arent the seedlings sort of cheap ?

Re: My Place

That greenhouse looks great @Oaktree Then one thing leads to another .... Its amazing how a blossoming interest can do so much to help our feelings. How long have you been a gardener?

Rich soil for growing ... or dust and dirt ... lol I often ponder the difference.

Gardening for me has been immensely psychologcally healing and I have gone through lots of stages and phases.  Even the obvious 'one thing leads to another' ... reality in gardening ... made sense of all the things that happened with my family ... a real sense of context beyond labelling somebody as sick ... Seeing the bigger picture ... in the garden helped me piece together causes and consequences ...

I no longer mind cooking most days.  I used to dread it.  I have less pressure and more time to think and more money to buy food.  Yesterday was swish ... salmon and salad ... today less so ... meat pies and salad ... with lots parsley from garden ... as that is what is plentiful ... I no longer buy the cheap pies ... sometimes I make my own pastries ... but I just keep it rolling over ... another meal ... planning about 3 at a time ... to keep things fresh.  Seems to work for us.  Tmrw Beef and Black Bean stirfry ...

Re: My Place

Hi @TAB

I prefer to grow from seed, I end up with stronger and healthier plants. When I buy seedings they look a bit sick when I transplant them. I would rather sew seeds and thin out the weak ones leaving the strongest ones. Will buy some seasol next payday I think.

I have always loved gardening @Appleblossom I can remember digging little beds as a child. I planted corn out in the front garden when we first moved in here and we had a terrific crop. I also planted veggies a couple of years ago. I live in WA so I have sand here which holds me back. My garden has some natives which are suited to the sand but growing veggies in it isn’t happening. I haven’t had the money to buy soil because hubby was unemployed the last 3 years. He just picked up work and starts in May.

I enjoy cooking but when the kids were small knowing what to feed them was stressful. Especially because one of them was a selective eater. Usually my hubby cooks my dinner. I am baking best ever chocolate cake with mocha icing tomorrow. It’s my son’s favourite and it’s for his birthday. Just having pigs in blankets for dinner with tomato sauce and American mustard.

Re: My Place

yeah never had seedlings , just thought would be a good idea somehow @Oaktree

yes, seasol good.

no such thing as selective eating when I grew up , was empty plate or trouble..

and growing up , was plenty of ..well gruel basically .. boiled bad mutton dripping w fat , ribs and flap even lol , cats wouldnt touch it in later years ...

anyway things picke up quickly on food front, were allowed to choosed bday meals, mine was either hotdogs (sounds plain but with best rolls and savs,,cant buy them these days..

or crumbed pork chops with cabbage yum lol @Appleblossom

Re: My Place

@TAB

Your childhood sounds a lot like mine. Forced to sit at the table till you cleared your plate. I ate some things i really hated like brussel sprouts. Wouldn’t touch them now. They are probably not that bad but back in those days they were boiled to death.

Kids are so spoilt these days!

Re: My Place

i learned to like sprouts @Oaktree  yes, cooked to death , not a fan of pink meat or crunchy vegetables, if you want it raw, why cook it lol....

boiled potatoes became mash, greasy water became gravy .. scap meat was upgraded to chops and all was good with the world lol.. hated liver though......... and was bit iffy about brains , had under done once  wtff ....

Re: My Place

@Oaktree Its tricky trying to tempt fussy eaters.  My 3 were not too bad. I guess I was lucky that way. It makes sense your husband feeds you while you are at work. I had to look up 'pig in a blanket' ... lol ... Fantastic he has a job to look forward to after his surgery.

I rarely gardened much as a child, neither did my parents, so probably am not that good at it, but dive in, have a go, and look up stuff now that we have the wonderful internet ....  I used to go to Bunnings and wherever ... but these days I really minimise it as it can cost a fortune, and I value sustainability.  The ground all around me is positively bursting with plants.  I have been here just on 20 years, and so it very satisfying.  I kind of sculpt the landscape.  When I moved here it was new ... all cleared builders clay.  I am going with more natives ... with a mix exotics and some edibles ... I have a red cabbage heading up beautifully ... a lot of my plants have emotional significance, from my grandmother, mother, brother, or family home when I was married.

It is the connections that matter to me, not whether I really like it or not ... Growing from seed ... seems a little delicate.  I have sometimes, but not a big thing for me.  I prefer to put my subtlety into music or writing ...lately enjoying ... mixing and matching clothes ... kind of new for me too.
