Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Content/trigger warning
I love to draw, little bit of writing but that's often hard to get into, but I do a little bit for my DND group I DM with my mates I ended up using a world I created for a short story so thats given me a roundabout way to add to it and expand the fiction.

I draw the characters and locations monsters and creatures from stories I've written helps me conceptualise it and add a bit more to each world as I go

I also stuff around in my garage making little wooden projects with what few tools I have. Made a very simple little wooden ship pretty basic but I was proud of it. Have made a treasure chest or two. I turned an old crappy looking coffee table into a storage spot for my collection of playing cards and dice. Made a DM screen for dnd and a dice tower. Oh and I've drawn a picture on an old skateboard that I sunk a few hours into proud of that one.

I detest the word talent my son gets discouraged because he wants to draw and create his characters and stuff but sees my 'talent' and psychs himself out of it saying he isn't as good as me but completely discrediting  that I have 34 years experience and every time I get into a manic mood state I draw everyday for a week or two and see myself get better and better.

Talent is repetition and practice I'm most cases

Do something you like or are curious about but make sure you set yourself time and goals 1hour a week and enjoy it.

Ive tried painting I am not good I keep practicing slowly getting better learning more

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Wow @GonePirate I'm impressed. Thanks for the encouragement re practice and repetition.

@moderator I'm not sure why this message ended up inside a trigger warning - perhaps you could fix it if @GonePirate agrees?

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

I wholeheartedly agree with you on that @GonePirate

I've recently really started putting in time to learn how to sew and have gone from making clothes that don't fit or are falling apart to making things that I actually wear, yet when I tell people I sewed my clothes their response is always "I could never do that, you must be talented!" but I can absolutely say I'm not, it's just been hours of work and making mistakes and watching how-to videos.

On the other hand I've always had a bit of natural talent when it comes to drawing but I've never had a consistent practice, so my skills have barely improved, and I've often been completely surpassed by others who may not have started with much natural ability but have put in the work and have become amazing artists.

And yes, happy to remove the trigger/content warning from your post as it looks like that might've been an accident, let me know 🙂

Re: Let`s talk about Bipolar

Odd placement of a trigger warning pow pow maybe cos I said I detest something like uh oh thats the educated hate hahaha

thats so cool you sew clothes and stuff I have always wanted to learn cos it would come in handy for fixing stuff or sewing patches into things or maybe getting good enough to take in pants or shorts and adjust sizes

I hear ya about the natural vs the practice I had a friend who I used to draw cartoons with in primary school like basic characters but he was  pretty dang good then our 3rd friend started drawing  dragon ball z characters and I remember saying wow how did you do that and he told me her pauses a recording of the tv and draws infront of it.

ok let's gooooooo

im waffling on
