hard to find help

i have ocd and despite being in private health and able to access indigenous healthcare, i still find it extremely hard to get help with a psychologist. i used to see one at my local indigenous health centre but they are always so swamped and even though i loved her, i need help more regularly. their reception was hopeless. they would always schedule appointments and not tell me, then when id miss them (because id be at work) the psych would get frustrated (fair) and think i didnt need more help. whatsmore, the psych worked from home and didnt give out her phone number so i couldnt call her directly, everything had to be done via them. i just signed up to someone.health to pay for a psych and she cancelled on me at the session was meant to start. i dont know why its so f*cking hard. i feel like im drowning every day. it takes so much mental energy just to become a funcitoning human and i feel so let down by the system.

Hi @persontrying ,

I can hear you are trying to hard to get better but feel let down. I'm sorry to hear how difficult it has been for you to get ongoing support for your mental health.

I'm wondering if you have heard of mindspot? https://www.mindspot.org.au/ You may be able to find some support here with an therapist.

This OCD program may also be helpful https://thiswayup.org.au/programs/ocd-program/

If you feel you need so speak to someone for more immediate support, you can contact https://www.13yarn.org.au/

Re: hard to find help

As an indigenous person, @persontrying, are you not able to gain peace and insight by speaking with your elders? Personally, I think that the breakdown of our tribal connections and values is what is causing so much so-called 'mental illness', regardless of which cultural group we belong to.
