Re: Compassion

I have some reservations about the consequences of Vatican 2.  I think they meant well by enabling people to gather and worship in their own tongues but there was a lot lost as well.

The church I sing with is in English .. but uses the old Greek and Latin Ordinaries as originally set by composers .. eg Byrd, Palestrina.

I also was a church organist as a youth .. and played what I was told back then too .. more poppy stuff .. prefer the old music now ... unless it is Arvo Part ... or ...

The Tridentine mass seems like a lovely idea .. @Neb are they still in communion with the Vatican .. not that it bothers me but I like to know what stances the hieracrchy are making.

Re: Compassion

Hi Appleblossom. Yep we are in the Church although there is a lot of politics around it. Something that is NOT good about the RCC.

My favourite saints include Martha. ..she who worried about the incidentals ...me too.

Re: Compassion

I was always confused about Martha and Mary... I did what Jesus wanted and did not worry too much  .. paid attention to people ... did the other stuff behind the scenes ... but none of the other ladies approved of me ...Woman Sad

I am an approximately clean and tidy housekeeper

Re: Compassion

Apparently,  Martha worried too much about the externals, and Mary was more concerned about the interior life.

Re: Compassion

But it seems that really a bit of both are required .. a balance between inner and outer .. material and ideational or spiritual ...

Re: Compassion

Agree with you Appleblossom. Curently offering.  Up my frightful cough which is hurting my ribs, and that wonderful thing of advancing years ...incontinence with the wretched coughing. I would be very happy if the good Lord shortens the course of the unwellness!

Re: Compassion

Hello Appleblossom.
I agree. Psychiatrists are obsessed with medication (after all: their income is dependent on it). For example: I have a poker face. He wants me to change my medication. He didn't suggest learning to act. He admitted that finding a antipsychotic medication that suits me would be trial and error. I told him many times that changing medication is very, very difficult for me!!!!

Re: Compassion

Hello Appleblossom.
I agree that too much emphasis on suffering is inappropriate. Even Jesus did a lot of other things than suffering on the cross. He spent a lot of time teaching people how to live before he allowed himself to be crucified!!!
One person said that I am a masochist. I think there is some truth in that. For example: I go to support groups often. Often I choose a rowdy group over a harmonious one!!!

Re: Compassion

Hello Appleblossom.
I hope you don't mind me criticizing your mother. I think being a Christian is a good thing. Playing one person against another (including priests) for personal gain is not. However, Christians are not sinless. They do wrong things also. Was she aware that it was a sin?

Re: Compassion

Hello Neb.
Thank you for explaining the meaning of DID. I saw a documentary on it. I think that would be difficult to cop with.
I don't know much about Vatican 2. Most of my involvement in the Catholic Church came later.
I am sorry that you live an isolated life.
